Support for the Neighbourhood Plan
On Thursday, 12 October 2017, overwhelming majorities of home and business voters in central Ealing said YES in a Referendum. The question was:

Do you want Ealing Council to use the Neighbourhood Plan for Central Ealing to help decide planning applications in the Neighbourhood area?

The answer overwhelmingly was YES from 92.2% of residents and 91.5% of business voters.

Five years in development, the Central Ealing Neighbourhood Plan (CENP) will influence how Ealing's town centre develops in the years to 2026. It will guide how planned changes can respond to the challenge and opportunity brought by a rapidly increasing population and improved transport access, while preserving Ealing's distinctive and historic character.

The CENP will become part of the statutory development plan for Central Ealing, and directly influence decisions on local planning applications.

The Plan's vision is that Central Ealing will once again be a sought-after destination and a natural focus for both the Borough and the West London sub-region, for the benefit of those who live, work or study in the area.  Full details here.

Aims of the Neighbourhood Plan
In summary, CENP aims to:

  • Support a sustainable local economy with a competitive mix of shopping and other activities including services
  • Deliver a welcoming place for visitors including a safe evening economy
  • Preserve our historic architecture and enhance its setting
  • Protect the scale of Ealing’s built heritage by careful siting of tall buildings
  • Ensure our green and open spaces such as Haven Green are protected
  • Balance improved transport access with the easier and safer movement through the centre town
  • Secure improvements to our shared public spaces
  • Make Ealing a regional centre of excellence for culture and education
  • Provide new facilities for leisure and recreation.
